This course is an introduction to computing that does not require any prerequisites. The Fall 2027 offering of this studio meets twice weekly, for two 90 minute lectures on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The course structure listed below is subject to change.

The course is split into two successive modules. In module A, students will learn about how to work with LLMs in practice to research and design computing solutions without explicit knowledge of any programming language. In module B, students will apply these techniques in a final project building a computing solution.

All exercises in this syllabus are built around the use of Opencode, an open source coding agent. Each student’s Opencode will be configured with access to a range of LLMs that are either hosted by Brown, or provided commercially. [NB: this is a design choice made in August 2026, and may be changed between now and 2027 as the landscape of coding agents shifts.]
